Founded in November 1975 by Charles Beilfuss, C.W. Beilfuss & Associates, Inc. has grown to be a leader in civil and structural engineering applications and consulting support, as well as many other types of business applications utilizing both the latest technologies and proven practices. CWB has provided consulting and development services, as well as computer application systems to over 40 of the 50 US State DOTs, to the Province of Manitoba, as well as to local government transportation units. It was the first contractor for the AASHTO Joint Software Development, and has continuously served AASHTO since 1978, successfully completing 44 contracts in that period.

CWB teams have successfully planned and developed the following types of systems:

Transportation administrative systems for oversize/overweight vehicle permitting, highway maintenance management and purchasing
Engineering applications for road and bridge design, and structural modeling, with computer graphics and drafting
Interactive computer graphic user interface methods for engineering applications
Specialized database oriented data storage and access processes with the engineering applications.

CWB provides a complete spectrum of the unique capabilities necessary to provide systems, procedures, and computer technology solutions to organizations that combine transportation administration and engineering functions. CWB service teams have carefully varied, yet overlapping, education, experience and skills, including business administration, engineering, and computer technology, to understand both the user and the application system development needs.

Pioneering the Automation of Transportation

Systems such as the

Bridge Analysis and Rating System (BARS, forerunner to Virtis)
Roadway Design System (RDS, forerunner to IGrds)
Interactive Graphic roadway design system (IGrds) and
SUPERLOAD, the interactive graphic routing, analysis and permitting system

were the first of their types for highway transportation. In each of the examples, CWB developed these systems using advanced technology that had not previously been employed for transportation systems.

Since 1990, CWB has maintained a continuous, independently funded development of the SUPERLOAD permitting, routing, bridge analysis and roadway restriction system. This suite of software processes has been in place since 1994, and has been continually expanded in scope and operability until it has become a unique system for oversize/overweight load permitting and highway transportation operation management. CWB’s SUPERLOAD product integrated the best technology from those earlier pioneering systems, including interactive graphic mapping, highway modeling and bridge analysis.
